My name is Matt Evans, and I’m a Ph.D. Candidate in the Psychology department at the University of California, Santa Cruz.

I am a cognitive scientist focusing on music perception – I investigate how musical information is represented in the mind and what that can tell us about underlying memory and attentional processes.

I investigate mental imagery of music as a way of answering questions like:

  • When you have a song stuck in your head, how accurate is it?
  • What can you do to make a stuck song go away?
  • How does musical training impact the accuracy of musical memories?

I am skilled in experimental design, behavioral data analysis, and understanding complex human interactions – insights that can translate into many applied research contexts.
